Vacation Recap- June 27, 2008 (kid free)

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids but everyone needs a break from their kids every once in a while.

Day 3 of our kid free vacation was AWESOME. We started the day with a light breakfast on deck over looking the ocean. We spent the morning at the beach. The water was not very appealing today due to the over abundance of algae floating around. However, the temperature and breeze were perfect. We spent time lounging on the beach listening to our I-Pods and reading books.
We spent the afternoon at Serenity Day Spa which is located at the Sandestin Hotel. We had a wonderful relaxing experience getting a couples massage. I have never had a massage before now I can’t wait for my next one.
For dinner we ordered up room service and had a quiet meal in our room, and then sat on the balcony reading for a while. It was a great last night for our trip.

Vacation Recap June 26th (Kid Free!!!)

Day 2 of our kid free vacation.

We started the day with breakfast at Sandcastle’s. The food was pretty good. Sandcastles is one of several restaurants located on the premises of the resort. We had made to order Belgium waffles.

We decided that we would be lazy and rest on this vacation so we arranged for beach setup which included 2 lounge chairs and a beach umbrella set up near the shore line. It was a perfect day for relaxing at the beach. The temperature was around 95 but there was a constant breeze that helped to keep it cool.

We decided on sushi for dinner at Hadashi. It was great. Dinner was late due to a 3:00 lunch, so the restaurant was very quiet with only a few other diners.

Over all day 2 of our kid free vacation was awesome. The weather was perfect, the food was great and it was wonderful to be able to just focus on David and me.

Vacation Recap June 25th (Kid Free!!!)

Caleb turned 13. We celebrated yesterday with family so today was a scaled back day for him. We took him to breakfast with my parents and my grandparents.

Around 11am David and I left for a kid free vacation. The kids stayed with my parents. It has been 2 years since our last vacation with just the two of us, so it was long over due. We decided to go to the Hilton in Sandestin. We got a great room called the King Ambassador Parlor Suite, it is basically 2 rooms a living area and a bedroom. The view from the room is awesome. The room has lots of windows with a wonderful view of the Gulf of Mexico.

We arrived in Sandestin too early to check in so we hit the outlet mall. We did not buy much but just walked around looking at stuff. We were able to check in around 4:00. We decided on Ruth Chris Steak House for dinner. Neither of us had ever had the pleasure of dining there. The food and atmosphere was wonderful. It was a nice romantic dinner. After dinner we took a walk on the beach. I wish I could say it was wonderful, but I can’t. It was hot and sticky even after the sun went down. However, it was nice to just be with David without the distraction of the kids.

Day 1 of our kid free vacation was pretty great.

Spring Break (Thursday and Friday)

Friday, April 10th, 2009

Thursday was an awesome day in Tybee. We went to visit the Tybee Island Light House and Museum. The Museum was closed for renovations, but it was cool to see the lighthouse.

We had lunch at “The Sugar Shack” http://tybeesugarshack.com/index2.html. This place was looked really dumpy but had the BEST milkshakes I have ever tasted. The food was really good too.

After lunch we went the beach. It was a beautiful day to relax in the sand and by the water.

Friday we packed up and headed home. We had an uneventful trip, but has heavy traffic. David and I are both sick with allergy problems so the trip seemed to take forever even though it only took about 5 hours to get home.

Now we are watching the news and listening to the radio to see if we are going to have a tornado.

Spring Break (Wednesday)

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

Today was a lazy day for the Lloyd family. The weather was still chilly but warmed up during the late afternoon. We took Madilyn to the beach for the first time. She crawled on the sand and explored her new surroundings. We had a nice walk along the shore of the island.

For dinner we went to Uncle Bubbas Oyster House http://www.unclebubbas.com/ for dinner. The food was really good. We left stuffed and all of our plates still had a ton of food on them. The wait time to for seating was around an hour which is long when you have kids with you.

We have upload pictures to our flickr account. Friends and family please let me know if you have lost the link and I will resend it to you.

Tomorrow should be awesome with temps in the 70’s. It will be a great way to end our trip to Tybee.

Spring Break (Tuesday)

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Today was entirely too cold and windy for the beach, so we spent the day in Savannah site seeing. We first went to the Savannah History Museum http://www.chsgeorgia.org/shm/home.htm. It was not as glamorous as the brochure made it out to be, but it was something to do that was inside away from the cold air and wind, and did have some interesting displays.

After we finished at the museum we went to historic River Street. We visited a lot of the shops and had to buy fudge at both of the candy shops on the street. For lunch we went to the Moon River Brewing Company http://www.moonriverbrewing.com/restaurant.html. Service was slower than slow, but the food was pretty good.

For dinner we went to AJ’s Dockside Restaurant http://ajsdocksidetybee.com/. The place looked like a hole in the wall. But we all know that the hole in the wall restaurants serve the best food. Dinner was great. They have both inside and outside seating. We would have loved to enjoy the sunset while eating outside, but the winds just made it too cold to do so.

After the kids went to bed, David and I spent time planning our adult only trip in June. It has been almost 2 years since we have taken a trip by ourselves. The trip we are on now was originally planned for July of last year, but due to Madilyn’s unexpected arrival we postponed the trip and made it a family trip.

Our allergies are killing us but we are still trying to have a good time. Hoping for a warmer day tomorrow.

Spring Break (Monday)

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

We traveled from Kingsport TN, to Tybee Island GA on Monday of Spring Break. The trip went very well. We traveled through the mountains of Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina. The views we saw were beautiful. It was neat to see the different colors of spring emerging.

We arrived in Tybee around 4 pm. The condo is wonderful, very nice and spacious with a view of the beach. For dinner we ate at the Crab Shack, not to be confused with Joe’s Crab Shack. We had a shell fish platter that more than fed the three of us. I think it was some of the best sea food I have ever had.

Madilyn is miserable, due to sinus issues. Her nose and eyes will not stop draining. She has been as happy as ever, but she hates it when we have to clean her eyes and nose.

Much Needed Vacation almost here

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

I can not remember a time when I have needed a Spring Break more than I do now. Life has just been moving really fast and I need time to relax and do nothing. I know many of you will say, Donna you just had a week long cruise in December to Mexico. I know but I really need another vacation, besides 3 months is a long time. I guess I am at a time in my life where I just want to have more down time and less work and stress time.

We will start our trip on Friday night by heading to Kingsport TN. We will be celebrating the adoption of the Manis children by attending thier dedication and adoption party on Saturday. We have not seen the Joe and Cheryl in years and are really looking forward to spending some time with them and their children. We also get to show off Madilyn and Caleb. They have not seen Caleb since he was a baby.

Monday morning we will head to Tybee Island Georgia. We plan to relax on the beach and at the condo from Monday until Friday morning when we will head home. I have posted a link to our condo, so you all can be jealous of the views that we will have 🙂

Monday- December 22 (recap)

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Today we docked in Progresso Mexico. We had a planned trip to see the Mayan Ruins and relax at the beach.

We took a bus to Dzibilchaltun (the ruins we visited). The bus ride took about 45 minutes. Along the way we received a history lesson on Progresso and the Mayans. The ruins were more that we expected. We expected to only see two or three structure however, we saw 20 or more ruins. We took a ton of pictures. Caleb seemed to really enjoy himself. Our guide Manuel was very informative and made the trip interesting. We spent about 2 hours visiting the ruins.
Upon leaving the ruins we headed to the beach for our “beach break” which included free drinks. I must say we were disappointed with the beach. It was not as clean as the beaches in Pensacola and the sand was dirty. The kids enjoyed playing in the sand, but no one really ventured into the water, because it had a lot of jelly fish in it.
We got back to the ship around 4:00 and got cleaned up and showered before dinner. Our dinners were long usually ending around 8:30.
The weather was perfect, around 78 degrees and a nice breeze. The day was perfect….
But the night is another story….
We hit some rough waters about an hour prior to dinner. At first we were all feeling fine. On our way to the dinning room we thought it was funny to see vomit bags hanging up everywhere, we also thought it was strange that no one was out and about. The dinning room was not even half full when we arrived. We ordered our dinner and one by one our table for 8 became smaller, another couple left and then I barely made it out of the dinning room before I was throwing up. Thankfully I had picked up a vomit bag earlier (just in case). I made it back to the cabin and went to bed. David and Caleb were able to eat and did not suffer with seasickness. Caleb did feel a little ill so he spent the night in his room resting and watching a movie.

Vacation- Sort of….

Caleb and I are in Milton/Pensacola FL. visiting with family. David is in London working and playing.

We went to the beach the other night and everyone got stung by Jellyfish so we are going to try to go again today, maybe it will be a better trip.

On Saturday, I will travel home, Caleb and Piglet will stay here. I need to attend training for my new job so Caleb will be staying with his Grandparents.
