Last year I started coupon shopping and try to make my dollar go further. The post within this section will relate to saving money on normal family purchases. I have found that saving money is worth the effort it takes.

Still Saving

Monday, March 21st, 2011

While I have not been activity blogging about coupon use and savings recently I am still saving a lot each week on my grocery bill and personal items for my family. I have been extremely busy and unable to blog on a consistent basis. I hope to resume blogging on a regular basis within a few weeks. (more…)

Savings this week

This week my total prior to coupons and BOGO was $123.22. I paid $75.33 for a total savings of $47.89.  My savings were a little off this week because we had impending bad weather in the forecast and I needed to make sure we had plenty of milk, eggs, bread and of course snack foods to last us several days should we become snowed-in. Saving in 2011

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

I have been using coupons and saving money on my family food bill and personal hygiene products for the past two and a half years. I know that I have saved by using coupons but I am not sure of the true value of my efforts since I have never tracked my savings. (more…)

Thankfulness Day 13

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

Financial peace isn’t the acquisition of stuff. It’s learning to live on less than you make, so you can give money back and have money to invest. You can’t win until you do this- Dave Ramsey.

Today I am thankful for financial peace. David and I made unwise financial decisions early in our marriage. The decisions we made prohibited us from being truly happy and secure. (more…)

Spending this week

Currently Life Bible Church is collecting coats and other winter items for MUST Ministries. I was able to really make my dollars stretch by going to the Holly Springs Goodwill. I know some of you will think that giving stuff from Goodwill is tacky. Giving used items to the needy is only tacky if the item is damaged or years out of style.

I had an awesome grocery shopping trip at Publix this week. I found a lot of great deals and was able to stock up on a few staples for the winter months. This week I did a good job buying only what was on my shopping list. I was also more diligent at passing up items that I did not have coupons for. Resisting impulse buying while shopping really drives your final total down. Not taking kids with you shopping also helps to keep the total down because you can shop without distractions and find the best deals.

I don’t think I have mentioned lately that I LOVE coupons.  Tonight as I was checking out the man in line behind me told me that I needed to teach his wife how to use coupons. I took that as a compliment. (more…)

Once again, I was able to keep my grocery bill under $100.00 this week.  My total prior to BOGO and sales was $155.68. I paid only $79.25 saving a total of $76.43.  In addition to my groceries I purchased two greeting cards at a cost of $4.75.

Every time I think I am too tired or too busy to clip coupons and match up sale advertisements I remind myself that if I don’t take the time to coupon shop I am robbing my family of money that can be used for other things. Since we donate a lot of what we purchase I am also robbing my family of the chance to help others in need when I don’t take time to coupon shop.

“Compassion without action is just pity, when Christ cared he took action, we need to see others where they are and take action” Robbie Schwandt

The sales on soups, canned vegetables and cereal have been pretty good the past few weeks. Now is the perfect time to stock up in order to help the local food banks with the upcoming holiday season. Within the next few weeks I will be boxing up extra soup, vegetables and cereals and dropping them off at MUST Ministries in order to help those in my community that are in need. I hope that some of my readers will do the same. (more…)
