Day 17~ Christmas

He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree.  ~Roy L. Smith

Today I am thankful for Christmas. Because of the birth of Jesus we have so much to live for. I am thankful to know that God loves us so much that he sent his son to live among us and to die for our sins. Not only did he die a horrible death but he had a glorious resurrection.

Christmas is a time in which I focus on and remember these truths. I teach my children that Christmas is not about getting more toys than they know what to do with. Christmas is not about fancy decorations, parties, and vacation time from school. While those things are fun they do not reflect what Christmas is all about. I instill in my children that Christmas is about giving to others as God gave Jesus to us.

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is the displaying of our nativity. The nativity set is always the first decoration displayed and the last one to be put away.  I loved it the year that Caleb finally “got it”. It was such a special Christmas. I look forward to seeing Madilyn come to a full understanding of what Christmas is all about.

What are you thankful for today?
