Until you value yourself, you will not value your time. Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it ~ M. Scott Peck
Everybody needs time to themselves. Time to relax, think, pray, refocus or just time to get away and be alone for a few minutes. Sometimes I feel like I have a difficult time carving out a few minutes to just focus on me. Work, family, household chores, and other obligations consume more of my time than I would like. The problem with never having a minute alone is that eventually I become a grouch and unpleasant to be around.
I have found that one of the barriers to having “me time” is me. How funny is that? I get in the way of my own revitalization time. My problem is not that I don’t have time for me, my problem is that I don’t utilize the time that I do have. Instead of stealing away for a few minutes of peace when time allows I will watch television or surf the net. These activities do nothing to help me relax and rejuvenate. What I need to do in these quiet times is read a book, take a hot bath, pray, or do a variety of other activities that make me feel refreshed.
My failure in making wise choices in the use of my free time impacts my family in a negative manner. I need to start making better choices with how I utilize my time so that I can be the best mom, wife, teacher, friend, and me that I can be all of the time not just some of the time.
