Day 10- My Job

A lot of fellows nowadays have a B.A., M.D., or Ph.D.  Unfortunately, they don’t have a J.O.B.  ~”Fats” Domino

Today I am thankful for my job. My heart breaks for all of the families I know that are unemployed or under employed.

For the past three years I have not received a pay raise, I have paid more for benefits, and I am constantly being asked to do more with less. Being furloughed for 8 days has not helped matters at all.  To say that it has been hard would be an understatement. Things are even harder because of the current view of education and the constant blame game that is going on between all stakeholders.

I could use all of these things to express dissatisfaction with my job, however I am over that and am now at peace with the situation. I know that GOD is in control and the financial needs of my family will be met despite what is going on with the current economy. I know that I am where I need to be at this point in my life. I am thankful that I do have a job.

I really like my job. I feel so blessed to be in a job I like, and I don’t dread going to work each and every day. Most days I actually like going to work.  I like knowing that I am helping kids get jobs, build skills for the future, and I am making a difference in the life of young people. I have one of the best jobs in the school system. Working with students and employers to help build the future of young people and our community makes me happy. I am excited for some of my students as they are in wonderful once in a life time internships which will impact the decisions they make concerning careers, college, and the path for their lives. I am excited for my students who are finding success in the job force when they felt that they could not succeed.

I am thankful that I get to do a job that I enjoy that really does impact those that I work with.

What are you thankful for today?
