Five years ago today, I met my beautiful daughter for the first time. Within hours we went from a family of three with no prospect of becoming a family of four, to a family of four.
June 30 and July 1, 2008 should be a blur since so much happened in a short amount of time, but for some reason I can remember almost every minute of those VERY long days.
On June 30, 2008 while cooking dinner we got the first of several phone calls from an adoption agency. I ignored the phone call because we were done. Paperwork was about to expire and we had decided not to renew. Years of trying to adopt had taken its toll on us and we were ready to move on with our lives. The agency was persistent and continued to call our cell phones and home phone until we answered. We were shocked that they had a baby born situation for us to consider. Long story short around 8:00 pm we said YES and began packing, and making flight and hotel reservations.
July 1 was a day filled with travel, prayer, excitement and lots of waiting. We waited ALL day. When I say all day, I mean all day. We did not meet our little angel until 11:45 pm. We were exhausted, excited, and nervous all at the same time. Meeting your child in the lobby of a hotel may not be ideal, but for us it was a perfect moment. She was so beautiful, a tiny little angel waiting to be loved and cherished.
The last five years have just flown by. I am so thankful everyday that we said YES.
