Why I Blog….

questionmarkI first started blogging in June of 2008. I started writing mostly to get my feelings out about my frustration with not being able to adopt after 3 very long years of working with the foster to adopt program and one year of working with a private agency. My third blog post on June 2, 2008 was an announcement to the world that David and I had given up on adoption and we were going to move on with life. I had planned on writing about our failed experience and how hard adoption is even though everyone always says, “there are thousands of kids out there that need homes.” Little did I know that exactly one month later on July 2, 2008 I would be blogging an introduction to our new baby girl.

Our lives changed dramatically and I continued to blog. I mostly blogged to keep our family up to date on our lives. Over time I decided that I would set up categories and blog about the things that I am interested in or things that I am learning.  I don’t blog about adoption very often anymore, because our adoption story is now really Madilyn’s story and it is up to her to tell. Sometimes I do blog about adoption issues that are in the news, or strange conversations that I have with others about adoption.

I love to cook. Most of the time I do not follow recipes. I tend to cook new things on the fly and add things that I think will make it taste good. 99% of the time my instincts are right and my creations turn out wonderful. I blog my recipes as a way of keeping them and sharing them with others.

When I decided it was time to get healthy and fit, so I started to blog about fitness. I lost 65 pounds during the year that I decided to share this information. My blog became a way for me to be accountable to myself and to my readers. The sad part is once I slacked on blogging, I also got slack with my eating and exercise habits. I gained most of the weight back. I learned during this time that it’s not just about accountability, it is really about making a true life change. Which is what I am doing now. Sometimes it is hard for me to blog about health and fitness, because most of the time I feel like a failure when it comes to this area of my life.

I am a Christian and I do not hide that from anyone, so I often post about what I am learning through my Bible studies and at church. I think it is important that we share what we are learning through God Word, because our sharing may help others.

For past 6 (almost 7) years I have blogged my thoughts, my feelings and what I am learning. I have posted 907 post on this blog. I blog because it is a way for me to clear my mind and keep friends and family updated on our lives. I blog for accountability in my life and I blog because I enjoy writing. I only wish I was a better writer.
