I blinked…

caleb gradCaleb graduated high school on May 31. Since I am an employee of the school I was able to go behind the scenes and see him with his friends prior to the ceremony. I am glad that I had the opportunity to visit with the students and my son prior to their big moment. Not many parents get to enjoy this time with their kids.  It was so much fun to hear all of the excitement from the CVHS class of 2014.

It was almost surreal, walking among the students and seeing my son there. I have been to so many graduations and I never really thought about what it would feel like when it was my turn to have a student in the ceremony. So many memories came flooding back.

I remember the struggle with trying to get pregnant. The excitement of letting family know that we were finally expecting. His birth and so many other moments between his arrival and this one moment that we have been waiting for, for so long. It seems like it all happened way too fast. One moment he was my little boy and the next moment he was walking across the stage receiving his diploma.

I think that we were both apprehensive about him attending the school that I worked at.  I did not want him to feel like I was always looking over his shoulder. I did not want him hearing kids that did not like me talking bad about me in the hallways. It can be complicated having a parent and child in the same school building. In the end I look back on the past four years and feel so blessed to have been able to share these years with him. By working in his school I got to see him in an environment that many parents never get to see. It is going to be strange not having him stop by my office this year and never seeing his car in the parking lot.

gownI am so proud of him. He worked very hard and maintained his GPA and earned the GA HOPE Scholarship.  He also graduated as an HONOR Student due to his hard work. I am even more proud of the number of AP classes that he excelled in and number of AP Test that he passed. His hard work has earned him 23 college credits.

I blinked and he grew up. His childhood passed by at warp speed. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for him.
