“If Facebook were a country, it would now be the 6th most populous in the world.” — from InsideFacebook.com
Today I am thankful for the Internet and social media. I resisted joining facebook and other social media sites for a long time. I did not see the need to have my profile and personal information on-line for the world to see.
I finally gave in and joined Facebook and Twitter about a year and a half ago. I can not believe how many friends I have been able to reconnect with. By utilizing on-line social media I have found long lost elementary, high school, and college friends. I have been able to reconnect with aunts, uncles, and cousins who live on the other side of the nation. I have daily conversations with many of my close friends and family members that would not be possible without the use of on-line social networking.
I am not just thankful for social networking sites. I am thankful for cell phone and instant messaging technology. I am thankful that technology has enabled me to be closer to my family. I enjoy getting instant messages and phone calls from my husband during the day. Somehow, he always knows just when I need an encouraging message.
Earlier this year Internet technology made it possible for me to continue with school while I was recovering from surgery. Had I not had access to the Internet and technology I would have had to drop out of school this semester and I would not be on track to graduate this summer. Technology has actually made education easier this time around. The first time I was in college I had to spend a lot of time at the library doing research. With the use of the Internet I have access to most of the University Library from my home computer. It is nice to be able to work from home.
The Internet and technology has changed my life and has helped to keep me connected with the people I love most.
What are you thankful for today?
