Pumpkin Painting

Madilyn- October 2011

This weekend Madilyn carried on with our newest family tradition of having a painted pumpkin as our kitchen table center piece. She was super excited to paint the pumpkin. I have had several people ask me how this came to be a tradition. It was not really planned but turned out to be so much fun that we decided to make it a Lloyd family tradition. In life it is truly the simple spontaneous things that can lead to treasured family traditions.

Last year when Caleb was carving our family pumpkin Madilyn felt left out. She was too little to help. It was enough to make a momma want to cry. I then remembered that we had some craft paint and a small pie pumpkin in the kitchen. I got the bright idea to let her paint the pumpkin. I told her that her pumpkin would be the centerpiece on our table until Thanksgiving. She was excited about that idea. She created a wonderful masterpiece that was proudly displayed in our home through the months of October and November.

Madilyn- 2010

I was looking through old pictures a few days ago and ran across a picture of her painting a pumpkin last year. I can not believe how much she has grown over the course of a year. Its just amazing to me how fast kids grow up. I hope that she continues to want to paint pumpkins in October for many years to come.

If you are looking for some fall fun for your little ones try letting them create a masterpiece to display in your home. Pumpkins have a long shelf life so you do not have to worry about it rotting quickly. The pumpkin Madilyn painted lasted well past Thanksgiving.
