2015 Goals Review

ticked-checkbox-1280927-mOn January 1 I posted my goals for 2015. The first month of the year is in the books, so it is time to review the goals I set for myself and see if progress has been made.

My first goal was to improve my health and fitness. The means of obtaining this goal was two fold, eating and exercise. As far as eating healthy I did really well. Around December 28 we cut processed foods, dairy grain and added sugar out of our diets (Read about that here). That means all I have been eating is fresh fruit, fresh vegetables and lean meats. This way of eating is called Paleo. At first I thought it would be hard, but it is fairly easy if you plan your meals ahead of time. As far as exercise goes, I made it to the gym 12 times.  I have lost 10 pounds this month and I plan to keep it off moving forward.

I have taken note of a few changes that I need to make in order to become successful at my health and fitness goals for this year. First I need to make it to the gym more often.  If for some reason I can not get to the gym I need to exercise at home. While I do not like exercising at home, it is better to this than to do nothing. So in February I will exercise at home when I miss my planned gym time. I also need to increase my water intake. I used to drink 80+ ounces of water a day. I felt great when I was doing that. However, for whatever reason I stopped and now struggle to drink enough on a daily basis.

My second goal was to become a better disciple by reading my Bible and spending time in prayer.  I took on the “She Reads Truth” (SRT) Bible in 365 days challenge and have been very diligent in reading daily. I have also emerged myself in the commentary so that I am not just reading I am studying and learning from what I am reading. I am also taking notes on what I have read and learned and am actually taking time to review the notes  have recorded.  Additionally I have completed several short bible studies using The Bible App. I love this app it has hundreds of online free Bible studies to choose from. It is hard, but I set my alarm for 5:00 each morning so that I have time to read and study, prior to doing anything else. This has been a refreshing way to start my day. I am having a little trouble with prayer time. My mind seems to wonder and I sometimes become distracted. So for February I will be focusing on prayer and doing better with this aspect of the goal. I will continue with the SRT Bible in 365 days plan, and have also decided to also participate in with SRT Esther study that they are doing this month.

My third goal for the year was to blog more consistently. When I wrote that goal I hoped to be able to blog three to four times a week. I want to break the cycle of blogging a lot followed by no post for weeks. So far I am doing great with 24 post for the month of January. I have decided that Sunday will be a day of rest from blogging. My problem with steady blogging is sometimes the things I want to say cannot be said. I have to be careful about some things that I say because of what I do for a living. If I felt free to blog about work this blog would be full with a post a or two a day. However, teachers get fired for things they post online so I have to be careful with the things I post.

Overall, I feel that January was a successful month for my goals. I have identified a few changes that I will implement for February and will continue to move forward on a positive note.
