Weight and Spirituality

I don’t normally promote self-help or advice books, but I just can not resist recommending the book Made to Crave by Lisa Terkeurst.  I have read and reread this book many times. If I had this book in print copy I know that the pages would be dog eared and full of high lights and notes.  Made to Crave is one of the few books I have actually paid to download to my iPad.

While the book is full of stuff I already knew the author puts many things in a clearer perspective for me as it pertains to the Christian woman and weight loss. As I read the book I found myself writing down quote after quote. I now repeat and remind myself of these quotes when I am struggling with food, weight, and diet issues.

This book also made me focus on my spiritual life and how it relates to my view of God, food, and cravings. I love that each chapter ends with several thought provoking reflection questions. I also like that all of the Bible verses used within the text are laid at the end of the book for easy and quick reference.

Favorite Quotes from Made to Crave

  • We consume what we think about. And what we think about can consume us if we’re not careful.
  • Poor choice with food will rat me out every time– if not in my waistline, then in my energy level and overall well-being.
  • You were made for more than this.
  • I am a Jesus girl who can step on the scale and see the numbers as an indications of how much my body weighs and not as an indication of my worth.
  • Do we rely on food for comfort and joy more than we rely on God?
  • Is your reliance on food, your weight and your health holding you back from what you were made for?
  • We were made for victory

If you are a Christian woman who struggles with weight loss you might find some helpful gems of wisdom within the pages of this book.I know that for me getting closer to God and talking with him, and praying have been one of my reasons for success this time around. Each day before my feet hit the floor I have already prayed that God would help me make the right decisions and give me the courage to keep moving forward.
