“A hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank…but the world may be a better place because I made a difference in the life of a child.” — Forest Witcraft
Today I am thankful that I am a teacher. I love that I get to do a job that I enjoy. I am so thankful that I do not have to work at a job that I hate and dread going to each day. I love seeing my students after they graduate and hearing about their success in life after high school. It makes my heart sing when a former student tells me how much they appreciate how I taught them, and how they could tell I really cared about them.
I went into teaching because I had teachers that made a positive impact on my life, and I wanted to do the same for others. When I was in 8th grade I had a typing teacher named Mr. Handley. He was tough but loved his job and was interested in us as not only students but as people with feelings. I knew after seeing him be so joyful in his job that I wanted to be a typing teacher. I enjoyed all of my business classes and I knew that teaching others a useful life skill was what I wanted to do. While the curriculum has changed and I have taught classes other than typing, I love knowing that I teach my students skills that will have a lasting impact on their lives.
I have never once regretted my decision to pursue a career in education. I am really grateful that I get to spend my days working in a job that I love.
What are you thankful for today?
