Wasting Time

Do ye value life? Then waste not time for that is the stuff of which life is made.~ Benjamin Franklin

Sometimes I wonder where all my time has gone. Some days it seems like I do not have enough time to get everything done that I need to get done in a day. I work full time, have a family, and go to school at night. However, somehow I still find time to waste. The wasted minutes in my days can add up to hours of wasted time each week.

Paul tells us in Acts 21:9 that , “All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing but talking about and listening to the latest ideas.” Some translations use the word gossip in place of the word ideas.

The actions of the Athenians sounds a lot like social networking. While reading this verse I felt convicted about the amount of time I spend on social networking sites. Do I really need to spend hours at a time looking at Twitter and Facebook?- Of course not. It is nice to be able to keep with with my loved ones and friends but some days I spend too much time looking at updates and posting my own updates.

I am not writing this post as a way to denounce social networking sites. I actually think social networking has a place in our lives.  I am just going to make a conscience effort to manage my time more wisely and spend less time on the computer and more time doing things that really matter.
