Is Miscarriage Murder?

Saturday, March 5th, 2011

Georgia Rep. Bobby Franklin wants all miscarriages to be investigated in order to rule out foul play. This is an outrage and the people of Georgia need to bombard  his office letting him know that HB1 is outrageous.  If this bill passes I believe that many women will decide not to seek medical care in the event of a miscarriage if they have not yet been seen by a medical doctor. Cooking with Apples

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

I had a bag of apples from Mercier Orchard that needed to be used so I decided to incorporate them in my cooking one night last week. Normally Caleb eats all the apples before I have a chance to use them for cooking. However, since he was recovering from having his wisdom teeth out he was unable to eat all the apples and they were at risk of rotting.  I made Apple Stuffed Cornish Hens, with cornbread dressing and dirty mashed potatoes. The recipes I created can be found below. (more…)

Friendship isn’t a big thing – it’s a million little things.  ~Author Unknown

We had the pleasure of going to Tennessee this weekend to visit our dear friends Joey, Cheryl and their children. We have known Joey and Cheryl for about 20 years. We became friends while we were students at Lee. I don’t know what it was about them but we just clicked and became friends. We don’t get to see them often, but we enjoy the time that do have together. We were especially excited about this visit because we got to meet their new arrivals Samuel and Stephen. (more…)

Joy

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

“The gloom of the world is but a shadow; behind it, yet within our reach, is Joy.” Fra Giovanni

Having joy during the difficult times of life is hard, but possible. During difficult times we need to look past the pain we are feeling and seek joy. We can do this by remembering the source of our joy. We must always remember that joy does not come from the temporary things that this world has to offer, but it comes from the Lord. (more…)

It’s Coming Together

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

David and Caleb have finished the frames for 4 raised garden beds. The beds are 8 foot long, by 4 foot wide and 13 inches in depth.  The beds have 2 foot of space between them which will be covered  with garden fabric and mulch to prevent weeds and grass from growing in the area.  Caleb and David have already started filling the raised bed with garden dirt. We still need several truck loads of dirt and manure in order to properly fill the garden beds. (more…)

Opportunity

Opportunity is often difficult to recognize; we usually expect it to beckon us with beepers and billboards.  ~William Arthur Ward

Many times we are so overwhelmed by our busy lives that we are not aware of the opportunities that are right in front of us. At other times we see opportunity but we let it pass us by.  We have many excuses for not seizing opportunities. Our excuses sometimes include  lack of time, money, or knowledge- just to name a few. My biggest excuse is always lack of time. (more…)

Rudest Adoption Question

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

Recently someone asked me one of the rudest question pertaining to adoption that I have ever been asked. The question was, “How much did you pay for your daughter?”   I found this question to not only be rude but also offensive.  This question made it sound like my daughter was a commodity made available for purchase and not a human being. I know that people are curious about adoption and the process but the wording of this question was very off putting.  (more…)

Valentine’s Day

Monday, February 14th, 2011

I don’t pretend to know what love is for everyone, but I can tell you what it is for me; love is knowing all about someone, and still wanting to be with them more than any other person, love is trusting them enough to tell them everything about yourself, including the things you might be ashamed of, love is feeling comfortable and safe with someone, but still getting weak knees when they walk into a room and smile at you.– Author Unknown

Wasting Time

Saturday, February 12th, 2011

Do ye value life? Then waste not time for that is the stuff of which life is made.~ Benjamin Franklin

Sometimes I wonder where all my time has gone. Some days it seems like I do not have enough time to get everything done that I need to get done in a day. I work full time, have a family, and go to school at night. However, somehow I still find time to waste. The wasted minutes in my days can add up to hours of wasted time each week. (more…)
