Who am I? The words most often used to describe me are: daughter, wife, mom, adoptive mom, teacher, student, and Christian. These words may define parts of my life but they do not make up the total of who I really am. These words do not get to the core of what makes me me. They do not tell anyone about the deeper parts of me, my personality, or my passions. These words just describe a small portion of who I am. (more…)
Religion
I grew up in a religious home, went to a religious college and am now trying to live my life not as a religious person but as a Christ Follower. I like many others struggle with faith and have doubts. I know God has a plan for me, sometimes I just wish he would show it me.
Who am I (Part 2)
Friday, June 10th, 2011Who am I? (Part 1)
Thursday, June 9th, 2011I love the show CSI, and I especially like the theme song, “Who are you…” Once I hear that short intro to the show it is hard to get the song out of my head. Life moves so fast that who we are can change with each passing day or with one defining moment in time. Sometimes I wish a team of experts like those portrayed on CSI could come in and examine my life and just tell me who I am. (more…)
Heaven is for Real
Tuesday, May 24th, 2011Recently I read the book “Heaven is for Real” by Todd Burpo. I am not sure if this story is a 100% true account of an experience or if it is just the imagination of a young boy. Online blogger’s and scholars have come away with mixed responses of the validity of this story. I am still processing all of the information and have not yet formed an opinion. (more…)
Remember the blessings
Wednesday, May 11th, 2011From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another (John 1:16).
It is so hard to remember all of the blessings that I have received when I am having a rough and disappointing week.
This week I had an encounter with someone who must have been God sent. Mrs. H does not work in my building, but happened to be walking down the hall when I left my office to go and pick up something from another office. I stopped to talked with her for a few minutes and discovered she had not planned to be in the building but had stopped in to check on an long-term substitute job that will be available next week. Our Joy and Strength
Thursday, April 14th, 2011“Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.” Thomas Moore
Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10) (more…)
Life Road Map
Monday, March 7th, 2011Sometimes I just wish that I could see the road map that God has laid out for my life. The bumps in the road and the unexpected things that come along that change the course and direction of my life are sometimes unnerving. It seems like every time I think I am headed in the right direction something happens to slow me down or change my course. A comment someone made a few years ago has stuck with me, she said, “If God showed us his entire plan for our lives at one time we could not handle the plan. (more…)
Joy
Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011“The gloom of the world is but a shadow; behind it, yet within our reach, is Joy.” Fra Giovanni
Having joy during the difficult times of life is hard, but possible. During difficult times we need to look past the pain we are feeling and seek joy. We can do this by remembering the source of our joy. We must always remember that joy does not come from the temporary things that this world has to offer, but it comes from the Lord. (more…)
Opportunity
Wednesday, February 16th, 2011Opportunity is often difficult to recognize; we usually expect it to beckon us with beepers and billboards. ~William Arthur Ward
Many times we are so overwhelmed by our busy lives that we are not aware of the opportunities that are right in front of us. At other times we see opportunity but we let it pass us by. We have many excuses for not seizing opportunities. Our excuses sometimes include lack of time, money, or knowledge- just to name a few. My biggest excuse is always lack of time. (more…)
Wasting Time
Saturday, February 12th, 2011Do ye value life? Then waste not time for that is the stuff of which life is made.~ Benjamin Franklin
Sometimes I wonder where all my time has gone. Some days it seems like I do not have enough time to get everything done that I need to get done in a day. I work full time, have a family, and go to school at night. However, somehow I still find time to waste. The wasted minutes in my days can add up to hours of wasted time each week. (more…)
Perspectives
Tuesday, February 8th, 2011During my recent Bible reading I have noticed some differences between the stories told in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. While the books parallel one another some of them include details not included in the other versions. Some people would call these inconsistencies but I consider the differences to be based on perspective. For example: (more…)
