Give a Kid a Chance

Our church is helping to collect back packs and schools supplies for “Give a Kid a Chance.”  The goal is to provide back packs, and needed school supplies to those in need throughout our community.  I look forward to helping provide back packs for this event each year.  We make it a family event to go shopping for the supplies, and we stuff the back packs as a family.  Participating in this event has been one way for us to teach our children about giving to others in need, and giving with a joyful heart. We also, have used this time to teach about giving “quality.”  While I do love to save money, I do not skimp on quality when providing items for charity events. I will look for the best deals on items, but will not settle on the cheapest item if I must sacrifice quality.   We want to provide back packs, notebooks and other supplies that will last and not fall apart within the first few weeks of school.

This past Sunday Office Max had placed brown bag advertisements in the paper.  The deal was that you could receive 20% off all items you could fit in the bag.  I thought I would go and price scientific calculators at target and then go to Office Max to see if the 20% off would make a difference.   I was able to purchase the calculators for the back packs for $7.59 each by using the 20% Office Max bag.  None of the other items needed for the packs would have been cheaper even with the 20% off so we still have a lot of shopping to do for “Give a Kid a Chance.” I am looking forward to the remaining shopping trips with my family so that we can help someone else who is in need.

Jenn- We all have those times. Give when you can, and accept help from others when you need it. Love you and am praying for you to find a job soon.
