Breaking a Bad Habit

Working full time and being a mom and wife is hard. After working all day I come home to housework, dinner, and laundry task that must be done. I am fortunate in the fact that my husband is a great help when it comes to getting things done around the house.

I have developed a bad habit with one household task that needs to change. I confess, I hardly ever fold laundry. Right now the routine with laundry is: start a load in the morning before work, place in dryer at night, place in laundry basket the next morning, then repeat the process. Notice I did not mention folding of the laundry. That’s because once it gets placed in the basket, I hardly ever get to the folding part until days later. This leads to us looking for clothing in the mornings as we are getting ready, and lots of wrinkles. It also leads to tons of folding when we do get around to folding.

I have read that it takes 30 days to form new habits, so during the month of September I am going to try to form a new laundry habit. I am going to try to complete the entire process for laundry on the day it is washed. So that means washing, drying, folding, and putting away all on the same day. I know this is doable because others do it. I just need to figure out how to get it all done.

I wrote this on Sept. 1 and forgot to post it. I can say that as of today not one basket of laundry has gone unfolded at night. Now to keep it up.
