I don’t have time

timeI don’t have time…. This is the excuse most often used when people talk about why they do not exercise. I don’t buy it. I used to use this excuse and then I realized that I don’t have time to not exercise. It is important to maintain a healthy life style and to incorporate exercise into your life. Not exercising and being inactive will lead to other health issues. I want to do everything I can do to make myself as healthy as possible while there is still time.

I have actually scheduled my gym time. I go to the gym on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Fridays from 3:45 until 5:00.  Appointments do not happen at this time, errands do not happen at this time. This is my time to work on me being healthy.

Recently I have wanted to do more. I thought I just don’t have time to do more. I have a family, a job, and a home to care for.  One day I sat down and looked at my schedule and I found a block of time that is “wasted” time. What I came to realize is that I was spending 30 minutes every morning on social media. This is really a waste of time, especially when I use social media after work. I decided that I would change my morning schedule around a little bit in order to start my day with exercise.

Before

  • 5:00-5:30 Wake up. Read Bible and pray
  • 5:30-6:00 shower and get ready for work.
  • 6:00-6:30 Social media
  • 6:30-7:10 get Madilyn up, pack lunches, start laundry, unload dishwasher eat breakfast.
  • 7:10 Leave for work.

Now

  • 4:45-5:20 Wake up. Read Bible and pray
  • 5:20-5:30 Get ready for workout.
  • 5:30-6:00 Work out
  • 6:00-6:30 Shower and get ready for work
  • 6:30 to 7:10 get Madilyn up, pack lunches, start laundry, unload dishwasher eat breakfast.
  • 7:10 Leave for work

It is a small change requiring me to get up 15 minutes early, and to give up wasting time on social media. The benefit is that I start my day out with exercise and I have more energy throughout the day.  If you don’t exercise on a regular basis I challenge you to look and your schedule and find your blocks of wasted time.

I was very happy when David decided to make a change to his schedule and join me every morning at 5:20 for morning exercise. In a couple of days I will post what we are doing during our morning exercise time.
