On a daily basis I see people living life trying to fit into molds in which they do not belong. Everyone wants to feel accepted and liked so they try to do and be what others think they should be. So much of our life is wasted trying to be someone we are not. By constantly trying to please others we sacrifice the true person we were created by God to be.
I too sometimes fall into the trap of being a people pleaser. I might not change how I act, but I may sit in silence and not voice my opinion. I may keep quiet out of fear of being rejected. This is not what God created me to do. He created me as a person of value that needs to only live to please him.
The sad part is that when we are just trying to please others we may miss the opportunity to pour God’s love into someone. We may miss the opportunity to show someone the truth of what life is really all about. We need to be deliberate in how we live our lives so that we do not miss opportunities that are presented to us.
I am keeping this verse in mind as I go through my days: ” Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Galatians 1:10.
