“Don’t wait for someone to take you under their wing. Find a good wing and climb up underneath it.” ~Frank C. Bucaro
Shortly after I decided that I needed to make some major life changes and get my health and weight under control I contacted my friend Shannon. I have known Shannon since my college years. In 1991, we both had the bodies and metabolism of great looking 19 year old college students who could eat anything and not worry about weight gain. She had inspired me by her Facebook status updates and blog post about her weight loss journey.
I asked Shannon to be my accountability partner and she agreed to do so. She began to email me a few times a week with encouragement, asking for updates, sharing her success as well as her frustrations. I in turn did the same for her. She helped to keep me on track. When I encountered stalls she helped me to stay the course. Now that I am several months into the process we have slowed our contact, but she is still there and seems to know just when I need to hear from her. It is almost a little scary that she will send me a message at just the right time. We are both slowly and steadily moving toward our weight, health, and fitness goals. It will take time, but we will succeed.
For me one of the keys to weight loss and maintenance has been a support system that has kept me accountable. Finding a dependable buddy may make all the difference in your weight loss journey. Thanks for being my buddy Shannon.
