What’s your excuse?

Saturday, February 25th, 2012

Excuses are the nails used to build a house of failure.  ~Don Wilder and Bill Rechin

Last week I started reading the blog of Sean Anderson. His blog chronicles his weight loss journey and how he met and is currently maintaining his goal. I started reading his blog at Day 1 and became inspired to add more exercise to my daily routines. Sure I had been going to the gym, but sometimes I had reasons also known as excuses as to why I could not make it to the gym on any given day. While reading Sean’s blog I thought to myself if a 500 pound man can get out and walk so can I. I made a plan to walk everyday of  Winter Break in order to help build a new habit. (more…)

I’m my own obstacle

Until you value yourself, you will not value your time. Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it ~ M. Scott Peck

Everybody needs time to themselves. Time to relax, think, pray, refocus or just time to get away and be alone for a few minutes. Sometimes I feel like I have a difficult time carving out a few minutes to just focus on me. Work, family, household chores, and other obligations consume more of my time than I would like. The problem with never having a minute alone is that eventually I become a grouch and unpleasant to be around. (more…)

The process of adoption is labor

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

One of the comments I really hate hearing when the topic of adoption comes up is “You did it the easy way by skipping labor and delivery?” All I can do is shake my head with disappointment with statements like this. I really think that people who make the statement that adoption is the easy way out need to have their heads examined. It is clear that when they make these kinds of statements that they have no clue as to how rigorous and exhausting the process of adoption can be. (more…)

We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

I don’t pretend to know what love is for everyone, but I can tell you what it is for me; love is knowing all about someone, and still wanting to be with them more than any other person, love is trusting them enough to tell them everything about yourself, including the things you might be ashamed of, love is feeling comfortable and safe with someone, but still getting weak knees when they walk into a room and smile at you.– Author Unknown (more…)

Stuck but not discouraged

Monday, February 13th, 2012

I have not lost a single pound in the last 50 days. My scale and my body will not budge from the 65 pounds lost mark.  Sometimes I just want to pick the scale up and throw it out the window, but then I would have to pay not only to fix the window but for a new scale. (more…)

Its the small things…

Friday, February 10th, 2012

Sometimes it’s the smallest things that bring a smile to my face. This morning on the way to work, Madilyn got all excited and began to talk about how beautiful the pink and blue sky looked. (more…)

Working Mom Grocery Shopping Tips

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

“The odds of going to the store for a loaf of bread and coming out with only a loaf of bread are three billion to one.” – Erma Bombeck

My most dreaded chore of the week is grocery shopping. I sometimes feel overwhelmed at the task of taking an empty cart and filling it with things my family will eat during the next week. (more…)

Things I can’t tell my Daughter

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

When Caleb was little he loved to hear the story of the day he was born. He loved looking at pictures of mommy with him still in her tummy and then pictures of mommy and daddy holding a brand new baby in their arms. He loved to hear the story of how he was our miracle baby. He loved hearing about our thoughts, expectations, almost being born on Aunt Katie’s birthday, and his grandparents traveling for hours in order to be for his arrival.  (more…)

Mud or Stars?

Monday, February 6th, 2012

“Two women looked through prison bars, one saw mud the other saw stars” ~ from the book Calm my Anxious Heart by Linda Dillow.

Since reading the quote above I have been unable to get it out of my mind. Those words really spoke to my heart and made me examine how I view my life. (more…)

January 2012 has come and gone. So far winter has failed to visit us here in Georgia. I am not complaining, because winter is my least favorite month. It just seems strange to have fall and spring like weather when it should be cold. (more…)
