Is it Spring yet?

One of the most delightful things about a garden is the anticipation it provides.  ~W.E. Johns, The Passing Show

Is it Spring yet? I am ready to play in the dirt again. I would not call last years garden a success, but it was a learning experience. Over the course of the next few weeks I will be planning my garden and preparing for the coming spring.

This year I plan to do a few things differently:

One of  the main difference I am planning is raised beds. My soil is not great so the raised beds filled with good soil will enable better plant growth. I have started looking at size and structure for the raised beds. I have also begun to think about how I want the garden to be laid out. Last year I really did not think much about layout, we just tilled and planted without a lot of thought.

I also plan to plant starter seeds and nurture them inside until it is warm enough to transfer them outside. I am going to plant fewer cucumbers since I am the only one in the house that likes cucumbers and they were one of the only things that grew well last year.  I plan on planting more tomatoes because nothing taste better than a garden fresh tomato.

I look forward to a more successful garden, another learning experience, and having fun with the family as we plan and work toward our second garden.
