The Lake House

We decided to have a low key and relaxing fall break this year. We rented a lake house at Lake Lanier for a few days. We loved the views of the lake from the decks of the house. We enjoyed spending time on the lake tubing and swimming. (more…)

Family Vacation…. Disney

Friday, July 13th, 2012

Last week we took a family vacation. This vacation was a splurge for us, because we just recently went on a cruise. We don’t normally do two big vacations in one year. However, with¬†this being the first summer in 4 years that I have not been in school we thought it would be fun. Plus Madilyn is the perfect age for her first trip to Disney World. (more…)

Are you wishing summer away?

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012

I often wonder if I am the only parent out there that does not dread summer break.

It saddens my heart to see parents posting on Facebook and Twitter that they can not wait for school to get back in session. (more…)

We took a Staycation…

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

The kids and I enjoyed our winter break by staying home. Unfortunately David had to work so he did not get a lot of time off this week. I thought about taking a trip to Florida to see family, but decided that we needed to just stay home. It has been forever since we have had an extended period of time to just hang out at home. Kid Free- Day 3.5

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Our kid free vacation ended today. We decided to take the long way home in order to stop by Mercier Orchards. We wanted to pick up a few goodies for ourselves and for my sister as a thank you for staying with the kids. It was a beautiful day for a drive in the North Georgia Mountains. I had never been to Mercier Orchards and was impressed with the large selection of goods they had to choose from. (more…)

Kid Free- Day 3

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

We started our day with a wonderful breakfast of fresh fruit, croissants, and quiche in the gazebo. Once again it was nice to have a meal without rushing. After breakfast we got around and went shopping in the Dahlonega Square. There were a lot of cute shops to visit. We had lunch at Caruso’s Italian Restaurant. They make their own pizza crust daily and the pizza tasted awesome. ¬† (more…)

Kid Free- Day 2

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

We started our morning with a breakfast of French toast, fresh fruit, and strawberries in the Lily Creek Lodge Bed and Breakfast Tree House. It was such a relaxing place to start the day. After breakfast we headed to the pool to lounge around. It is unfortunate that I needed to do some reading for a paper that I have due early next week. So while I read my not so fun technical reading, David read a Stephen King book. It has been forever since he has had time to read for pleasure. (more…)

Kid Free- Day 1

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

Being the sneaky parents we are we waited until Madilyn went down for her nap to leave for our kid free vacation. We started our day at the outlet malls in Dahlonega. We had lunch at Long Horn and then headed over to Lily Creek Lodge Bed and Breakfast. Our room is very comfortable. It is a little weird being the only guest at the lodge. However, being the only guest makes for nice quiet surroundings.

Getting away

Monday, September 20th, 2010

David and I are headed out for a few days of peace and relaxation. I am very thankful to my sister, Deanna for coming to take care of the kids so that David and I can enjoy a few days away. I love my kids, but David and I need some time to focus just on the two of us. We are going to stay at Lilly Creek Lodge in Dahlonega, GA. Dahlonega is just a short drive from home and is located in the mountains. (more…)

Upcoming Vacation

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Next week we are leaving for a short family vacation and a short kid free vacation. On Tuesday we will travel to Milton FL. to spend a few days with my family. It should be interesting since all of my sisters (ALL 5) will be in town. The last time we were all together was 12 years ago at my grandmothers funeral. My older sister and my mother do not get along well so things are usually tense when they are together. My older sister also leads a life-style that most of the family does not approve of, that alone makes our gatherings interesting. My youngest sister Mary will be bring her fiance Fred to meet everyone. Hopefully he is a good guy and not a looser like her ex.

Wednesday we will be having a birthday BBQ for Madilyn and Caleb at one of the local parks. Wednesday is Maddie’s 1st B-day, and Caleb’s 13th is on Thursday. We do not plan to have celebrations together every year but this seemed to make sense this year since we will be out of town and it will be hard to get the entire family together again the next day.

Thursday morning we are taking Caleb out to breakfast with just his grandparents. Hopefully this will help to make is day a little special.

Thursday afternoon, David and I will leave to spend a few days kid free. It has been 2 years since we have had a kid free vacation. We had one planned for last summer but those plans changed into this years Spring Break trip to Tybee Island when Madilyn made her unexpected arrival just days before we were to take the trip. The kids will get to stay with grandma, grandpa and great grandmother and have extra time with aunts, uncles and cousins while David and I have time to refresh and relax.

We are going to SanDestin Beach for 3 nights. We got the “Sun, Sand and Surf” package that includes

  • Beachview suite accommodations
  • Daily beach set-up, with umbrella and two chairs
  • Two refreshing cocktails daily
  • Panama Jack sunscreen, with your choice of SPF
  • Two Hilton Sandestin visors

Here is a link to the hotel that we will be staying at: http://www.sandestinbeachhilton.com/

I am so ready for this vacation but it is still a week away.
